The Painless Way to Make Golf More Affordable

Golf is an expensive hobby. There are manys ways to make it more affordable – buying cheaper clubs or playing poorer courses for instance…but that’s not much fun. There IS an often overlooked way to save a significant amount of money on golf – buying used or “recycled” golf balls. How many times have you lived out the following scenario; You buy a new pack of Titleist Golf balls, you tee up at the first hole, and hit your $3 golf ball right into the water. A perfectly good golf ball in mint condition, sitting at the bottom of a pond. What a waste.

That’s where used golf ball companies come in. They search water hazards and other hard to reach parts of the golf course for all the lost golf balls and then clean them up, repackage them and sell them for a steep discount on what you would pay for the same golf balls new. The highest grade used golf balls are indistinguishable from new golf balls and can cost less than half the price of the same golf balls. There are also lower grades of used golf balls available, such as balls which may have a single noticeable blemish, but still play great, or “practice grade” used golf balls which may have several blemishes, and are more suitable, as they say, for practice.

One thing you want to make sure of is that the golf ball recycling company is not painting, repairing, or otherwise dressing up a flawed golf ball. If a used golf ball has been cut or damaged, painting the outside of the golf ball so it looks new will NOT make it play like new. After trying used golf balls from several of the major recycled golf ball companies, my favorite place to buy used golf balls is Golf Balls Direct. They usually have the lowest prices and the balls are just as good if not better than the used golf balls from anywhere else.

So, for a pain free way to save money on your golf game, I highly recommend you try out some used golf balls for your next golf ball purchase. You won’t feel good about hitting a used golf ball into the water, but you’ll feel a little better knowing you might be getting it back.
